The Merycoidodon is an extinct mammalian species, often thought as resembling something between a sheep and a pig. The Oligocene period was characterised by a recession of the rainforests from much of our planet, resulting in the creation of steppes (large plains of grassland). These steppes suited creatures that could graze and travel large distances to find fertile land, leading to the evolution of species such as the Merycoidodon.
