To create the worm gears for my equatorial mount, I need a way to gash 360 small slits that are each 1 degree apart. To do so, I designed an indexer for the mill. By rotating the circular plate in the back and lining its holes up with one of the holes on the side plate, one degree increments are made possible. The base is intentionally slanted to account for the slits’ lead angle (the angle that arises from the thread pitch on the corresponding worm).
