More model information25 November 2020. This is a large psammite boulder 4.5m x 3.5m x 2.6m. It was covered in a thick layer of moss and lichen. We examined it and found cups and grooves on the top surface only, which we cleaned carefully. We lifted some of the moss on the other areas of the boulder and being confident there are no other motifs we chose to leave the moss in place.
The panel is (unusally) on a N facing spur, about 50m above the broad flat Spey Valley, which it overlooks. It is situated in an area with sparse birch trees, and thickets of juniper and broom, restricting access. The more open areas are largely covered in bracken.
