More model informationThe Moai Kavakava statues are massive megaliths at Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, and are what the island is famous for worldwide. Their true cultural purpose remains a mystery. The moais were built in approximately 1400 - 1650 A.D. However, the moai scanned by Mid-Pacific students Quinn Nakasato and Olivia Hughes is a modern rendition of the cultural practice carved in about the 1980’s. Curtosy of Bishop Museum.
