More model informationThe 236 ft wooden package freighter Montana was built in 1872. Built for speed, It carried passengers and package freight for thirty years. It was then converted to a lumber carrier for the last years of service. In 1914 it caught fire, burned and sank off Sulphur Island near Alpena. It is now a popular dive site in the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. What is unique about the Montana is its rare double steeple compound engine which is like two steeple compound engines ganged on the same shaft. The model was created from a combination of 2,211- 6720 x 4480 pixel Canon 5D and 3680 x 2760 GoPro images.
