More model information17th-century mortar with projectiles, charge and utensils for cleaning and charging. The shown projectiles are two types of grenades and incendiary bombs (filled and empty). Grenades are ignited before being fired and explode in the air, sending down a rain of lead bullets on the enemy. Mortars always use charges (prepackaged gunpowder). A mortar shoots projectiles in a curved trajectory, so it can overcome walls and barriers. Volume 1 of Mémoires d’artillerie by Surirey de Saint Remy (BnF) gives all the details.
