Project Recover is a collaborative effort to enlist 21st-century science and technology in a quest to find and repatriate Americans missing in action since World War II, in order to provide recognition and closure for families and the nation. In order to protect families, we don’t release identifying information on the wreckage until it is excavated by the US government and the surviving kin are located and notified of any discovery of remains. In this case, Project Recover was permitted by the Palauan Ministry of Community and Cultural Afairs to conduct an archaeological survey of an area believed to contain graves of US servicemen. We carried out these test pits in 2018 and confirmed no remains or any artifacts were present, and closed the site.
