Photogrammetry model of the MS Herkules that sank outside Munkholmen, Trondheim. The footage captured only of one side of the boat spanning the parts of the forward lower hull, back of the deck and the bridge. Note that due to low / poor visibility and lighting conditions, some parts were diffirently lit than others. Captured using the Blueye Pioneer at ~60m depth. The white mesh box is the ROV for relative size comparison (although the model isn’t exactly 1:1).
The tugboat M/S Herkules sank in the waters off Nyhavna in Trondheim, specifically between Ladehammeren and Munkholmen, on 16 September 1957. Herkules was towing the 9,000‑tonne M/S Lars Mehling, but because of poor seamanship the tow line crossed the ship, pulling Herkules toward the port side. Shortly afterward water flooded the vessel. After the incident there were plans to raise the wreck, but this never happened. The wreck of Herkules now rests in good condition at a depth of about sixty metres.
