This model shows the early Neolithic chambered tomb at Tres Ness. In September 2017 a team directed by Dr Vicki Cummings (University of Central Lancashire), Prof Jane Downes, Colin Richards and Chris Gee (Univeristy of the Highlands and Islands) opened a long thin trench over the top of the monument. The excavation revealed the cairn material beneath the turf and revealed the tomb has survived intact despite limited later activity, possibly by antiquarians looking for grave goods.
The sea has eroded one end of this monument, taking a slice through the southern part of the monument and revealing the chamber of the early Neolithic stalled cairn.
