More model information- Name: Niobid restoration model #1 of Pedagogue and M4
- Material: Cast (plaster of Paris)
- Format: Statue
- Museum: Courtesy Villa Medici, Rome
- Museum of originals: Gallery of the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no. 292. 301)
- Reference for restoration: W. Geominy, “Ein Niobidenkopf vom Neumart in Köln,” Kölner Jahrbuch 43 (2010) 267-279. We have taken a model of the Pedagogue in the Uffizi and modified it to reflect the discoveries reported by Geominy, particularly those from the Stadium Garden at Hadrian’s Villa (the copy digitally recreated here: hence the use of bigio morato for the clothing). The Pedagogue’s right leg is lifted and set on a rock and his right hand grasps the upper arm of the boy (=M4). Note that the Pedagogue’s head is a false restoration, but we have retained it in restoration model #1. See #2 for a new, improved restoration of the head.
