Birch ply
The piece celebrates and harnesses the structural qualities of its material by turning the ply edge into the face. Born out of limitations on access to materials and workspace (thanks COVID!) it is made from the offcuts of larger projects, bringing the ignored, peripheral and discarded edge to the centre. Using labour intensive layering process of which the material would not normally be deemed worthy, the ply is intricately layered to valorise its most integral feature.
The rest is just playing with ideas about binary and cuisenaire rods.
