Okapi (NHMW-Zoo-MAMM ST348)3D Model
3D scan of a mounted skin of a female okapi (Okapia johnstoni). Okapis, or forest giraffes, are closely related to the giraffe. These shy forest creatures were one of the last large mammals to be known to science around 1900. Their distribution range is restricted to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. An okapi pair went on display at the NHM Vienna already in 1910.
This okapi female and a young male are Number 88 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 34 of the NHM Vienna. The same Hall is home to the Southern Elephant Seal, and Steller’s sea cow.
