Boulder on Bewick Hill, approx. 3 miles NNE of Powburn, Northumberland.
Found within a green wall to the E of the hillfort. Referenced on the Beckensall Archive (BA) as ‘Old Bewick 3b’, the archive notes a single cup. In their later recording NADRAP Team 3 described on ERA:
“One pronounced cup and up to six possible cups with two associated with each other. The cups are randomly located throughout length of panel and are mainly shallow and probably artificial rather than weathered.”
Whilst some of the additional depressions can be seen on this model, it’s difficult to attribute natural or artificial. However, a previously unrecorded ring may add weight to their artificiality.
