South of the port of Rotterdam lies a lake which used to be the river outlet of the Brielse Maas. This was the main shipping lane to the port of Rotterdam from the 13th until the 18th century. In 2015, the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE), conducted an archaeological assessment of the OVM 12. The area of the shipwreck has been heavily disturbed by sand extraction in the 1960’s and the remains are at a depth of 40m.The researchers found the remains of Dutch, large seagoing vessel from the end of the 17th century. This location is under threath by illegal excavations and looting. The data has been processed by Thomas Van Damme (@Ubi3D).
