More model informationThis unusual animal was discovered in the ancient rocks of the White River badlands of Niobrara County, Wyoming. The White River badlands stretch across parts of Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and Nebraska and range in age from about 35 to 19 million years old. This skull comes from Merydoidodon culbertsoni, an animal commonly referred to as an oreodont. Oreodonts were small ungulates (hoofed animals) that somewhat resembled pigs. The fossilized remains of these animals are fairly abundant.
