Ottawa Steam Locomotive CN 6200 & Tender; 20mm 3D Model
Steam locomotive CN 6200 and tender outside the Canada National Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa, scanned quickly at ground level (e.g., the top wasn’t visible) with a Faro Focus laser scanner.
This is the scalar LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data, waiting to be modeled. Notice how the black metallic paint returns less data? The deep black absorbs much of the light (see: black body absorbing electromagnetic radiation) used in the measurements.
“A 4-8-4 Northern type built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in June 1942. Class U2g. Boiler number 69698, class U-2-g. It was given to the museum in June 1967.” (http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2281666)
