More model informationThis artefact was recovered from Trench 2 at our Hemingbrough Iron Age site. It’s ceramic, and while the 3D model doesn’t show it, the somewhat off-centre hole is pierced right through. There is some wear at the edges of the hole that hints that it may have had a string tied around it.
What is it? A loom weight perhaps? A very large and heavy spindle whorl? Suggestions are welcome!
The Ouse and Derwent Project is a three year community project examining the Iron Age landscape in the Vale of York. It is funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
