The first mention of a church in Diano d’Alba dates back to 1325; it seems that the original parish church was dedicated to San Calogero, while the dedication to San Giovanni Battista is attested starting from 1344. In 1577 the bishop of Bergamo Gerolamo Ragazzoni, carrying out his apostolic visit, urged to redo part of the vaulted ceiling of the building and to enlarge the presbytery while in 1594 the bishop Alberto Capriano found that the works had been carried out in the meantime. In 1761 the then parish priest Don Valentino Bocchiardi forwarded the request to be able to rebuild the church to the bishop Enrichetto Virginio Natta, who gave his consent: in this way, the new parish church was built to a design by Carlo Francesco Rangone between 1763 and 1769. A few decades later, in 1834 the bell tower was finished, while in 1888 the new organ was built by Francesco Vittino. In 1999 the windows were replaced and in 2001 an accurate general restoration was carried out.
