Physiographic provinces of Virginia as defined by Chuck Bailey of William and Mary shown with 3D topography (20X vertical exaggeration) and a simplified version of the Virginia geologic map that has been heavily modified from https://mrdata.usgs.gov/geology/state/state.php?state=VA on the front (top) and relative rock age on the back (bottom) (age information also from the state map). Province names are from east to west: Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Blue Ridge, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau. Please note that there is a slight mis-projection of the rock texture that is only problematically evident (to me at least) in some portions of the Valley and Ridge.
