Fino alla metà dell’800 lungo il perimetro del porto c’erano varchi di collegamento alla città chiamati portelle. Erano sei e facilitavano il carico e lo scarico delle merci. Oggi le portelle ancora visibili sono quattro. La Portella della Loggia – costruita nel XV secolo in pietra istriana – costituita da due fornici utilizzati per accedere alla soprastante sala della Loggia, dove si negoziavano le compravendite delle merci. Portella Santa Maria detta anche Portella della Dogana apparteneva all’antica cinta muraria e consentiva l’accesso diretto all’ ufficio della Dogana. Portella Torriglioni – realizzata in laterizio – porta il nome e lo stemma dall’omonima famiglia che ne ebbe la custodia dal XVI secolo. Portella Palunci, anch’essa correlata alla cinta muraria del XIV secolo, è costruita in mattoni con elementi architettonici in pietra posti alla base dell’arco a sesto acuto.
