More model informationThis was sculpted right before the 2016 Olympics. The big story at that time was that Michael Phelps was going to add to his gold medal count, and that he was a recent father. It was built from a portrait I had done of Phelps four years earlier.
In 1996 I sculpted a series of portraits of retired Olympic gold medalists from life. I traveled to their homes to sculpt them. That series of work was on display in the Olympic village during the ‘96 Olympics in Atlanta. So, every now and then, I’ll be inspired to do such a work. This piece was meant to include humor, an element I apply to a lot of my 3D modeled work.
