More model informationThis example of Predynastic D-Ware pottery came to the museum via the 1898-1899 excavations of the Egypt Exploration Society at Hu, the capital of the 7th Upper Egyptian Nome. Hu is located near the Nile’s Qena bend.
D-ware or ‘Decorated Ware’, is a classification for Predynastic pottery dating from ca. 3600-3100 BCE. This style of pottery is found mostly in Upper Egypt. D-ware pottery is traditionally made from Marl clay and decorated with red ochre. The decoration often depicts the natural landscape of the Nile Valley. While more elaborate examples can include scenes with humans and animals, many show geometric patterns.
