In 2023, local sportdiver and amateur archaeologist Ernst Jongejan found a rather impressive wreck at the shallows of Zuiderhaaks (near Den Helder). The wreck is 30+ m long and has several canons and other objects still in place. Further research on the canons suggest that this wreck is probably the Dutch admiralty ship the “prins Willem” which floundered in 1781 on the shallows of Zuiderhaaks. The ship was part of the admiralty of the Maze and was a second rate ship with 74 guns. The 3D model was made from video footage form the local divers. One can clearly see two 24 pounders laying next to one of the ships anchors.
