Projection neurons Pain is a sensation perceived by the brain. Triggers like heat, cold, touch and pressure are initially processed by a complex network of nerve cells within the spinal cord. One of those cells are the ones shown in here, the projection neurons. Projection neurons are relevant to transmit, among other things, pain and itch information directly to the brain.
