Przewalski's Horse (NHMW-Zoo-MAMM ST347)3D Model
3D scan of a mounted skin of a Przewalski’s horse, or Mongolian Wild Horse (Equus ferus przewalskii). This horse is the pure-blooded offspring of a population from the Altai Mountains and a direct descendant of the 53 animals used to save the subspecies. Przewalski’s horse and modern horses are often classified as the same species. The two subspecies diverged long before our horse breeds were domesticated – when exactly is contentious, but the latest results suggest a separation between 38,000 and 72,000 years ago.
The Przewalski’s horse is Number 90 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 35 of the NHM Vienna.
