More model informationThis specimen was sampled 5,000 m deep in an abyssal plain of the Pacific Ocean, using the remotely operated vehicle Isis. This xenophyophore is ~10 cm diameter and is growing over a polymetallic nodule, commonly found in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone. Foraminiferan xenophyophores are very common single-cell organisms in deep sedimentary ecosystems. It was rebuilt in 3D when recovered on deck the royal research vessel James Cook, during the JC241 expedition (National Oceanography Centre). The photogrammetry software used is Meshroom (C).
