Quartzitic sericite-graphite schist with garnet3D ModelNoAI
Locality: Muncelu Hill, Romania
No.: 566
Size: 10 x 9 x 2.5 cm
Type: Metamorphic rock - foliated
Description: This quartz-rich schist is a foliated metamorphic rock characterized by a high silica content, making it significantly harder than typical schists. Sericite (fine white mica) gives the rock a silvery sheen, while dispersed graphite imparts a distinct dark grey color. Although garnet is part of its mineral composition, indicating medium-grade metamorphism from a silica- and carbon-rich parent rock, the crystals in this sample are microscopic and not visible to the naked eye. The parallel alignment of the sericite and graphite flakes creates its strong foliation.
Essential minerals: quartz, sericite, graphite, garnet.
Accessory minerals: feldspar (albite), magnetite, pyrite.
