Queen Mother: Idia Bronze Head3D ModelNoAI
This bronze cast sculpture, known as the Commemorative Queen Mother Head, depicts Queen Idia, mother of Oba Esigie, who ruled between 1504 and 1550. Queen Idia earned her own palace for her mystical contributions to Benin’s victory over the Igala people. The sculpture portrays Queen Idia in a naturalistic, almost life-size form, showcasing her elegant conical hairstyle adorned with a detailed coral bead net. Coral bead strands cascade at her sides and back, complemented by a high coral bead collar. Noteworthy features include two vertical marks on her forehead, originally inset with iron, and four scarification marks above each eye, with beautifully inlaid iron pupils. This sculpture beautifully captures Queen Idia’s regal essence, honoring her significant role in Benin’s history and her remarkable achievements during her son’s reign.
