More model informationThe RAP1 protein from yeast S. cerevisiae that binds around a strand of telomeric DNA at the end of the chromosome that is 827 amino acids long. It creates sequence specific binding that helps stabilize the chromosome, it also invloved in transcriptional regulation as both a repressor and an activator using the cofactos SIR3/SIR4. RAP1 is believed to package the telomeric DNA as well as, the regulation of telomeric length. Therefore, this protein could give us futher insight into cancer and ageing as teleomere length is related to aging and cancer. It can also be related further to cancer and ageing as RAP1 is binded ~18bps along telemeric DNA and therefore can be assumed to be the major DNA binding protein of the yeast telomere.
