Low Poly Pixel Overgrown Robot from the Studio Ghibli film, ‘Laputa: Castle in the Sky’

This took twice as long as I anticipated. A note to anyone doing this style, spheres are an absolute nightmare to texture, you end up with a lot of unsightly seams if you try and attempt to make the whole model pixel perfect, I managed to get around this issue (sort of) by using solid colour areas on the areas of faces where the seams showed most (e.g. the top and bottom of the shoulders, head and lower torso piece). I tried using a particle system with textures originally for the grass but after I attempted and failed that a couple of times I simply did it manualy but I think it’s a concept I’d like to return to on a later model.

I’ll probably be doing a few smaller models next, partly to help improve my knowledge of this style and partly to justify getting a years worth of Sketchfab membership so feel free to follow my account either here or on Twitter if you want to see any of that.
