I made this model to challenge myself and to learn both substance painter and designer. I had sketched the frame and finger component about a year prior to making this model, It caught my eye whilst flicking through old artworks. Subsequently I followed this up with mechanical and robotic research, kicking off the start of my modeling process.
Modeling the frame and joints was easy however I began to have trouble when it came to components and functionality. This is where an image folder filled with hinges, hydraulics, joints, circuit boards and numerous components was essential in aiding my design.
Overall Im very happy with the result, It looks the same as I had envisioned (with minor tweeks to components). I was able to overcome numerous technical issues involving Substance texturing crashes, rigging faults and animation exports. Most importantly I learnt a tone in which I will be able to carry over to future projects.
