More model informationRochechouart impact structure is an impact structure in France. The exact dimensions are difficult to establish due to significant erosion over time. While listed at 23 km, the inner structure is 12 km in diameter and a larger circular structure of 25 km diameter has been detected. The impact dates between 203 and 207 million years ago. This specimen is a Rochechouart impact melt rock (Babaudus type), which generally does not contain many clasts that originate from the local crystalline basement rocks. The matrix is often dense, but contains prominent elongated and oriented bubbles like this example. (Courtesy: M. Langbroek)
