Prehistoric carved boulder on private farmland on near Scaletree Plantation, Romaldkirk Moor, County Durham.
This rock is thought to have been moved during drain installation (Brown 2008). It’s referenced ‘ST’ in Beckensall & Laurie’s 1998 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’. NADRAP added the record to ERA in 2008 as ‘Romaldkirk Moor 1’. Historic England describe the stone:
‘The carved rock measures 0.6m by 0.65m by (0.2m) high. The carving consists of three closely-grouped cups joined by a groove, a cup with a groove running from it to the edge of the rock, and three other possible cups.’
