The dark stains that can be seen in places are burn marks, showing it came into direct contact with fire. This, along with its more rounded shape, proves that it was a cooking pot. Pots like this were used to cook foods like boiled vegetables, soups, stews and porridge. They could be either suspended over a fire or placed in metal stands to elevate them above the heat.
