This model is the mosaic that can be found on the floor of the shop of a fishmongerer In Ostia Rome. The mosaic is in black and white tiles and depicts multiple fish as well as a man in a boat. The man is in a canoe and seems to be spear fishing adding some very intracet details to the mosaic. Above one of the fish their is also what looks like an eel or snake. The mosaic also features a drain running from a basin to the entrance of the shop. The basin couldve been fountain adding something to help attract consumers to come into the store. The word “IMBIDIOSOS” can be clearly seen on the floor as well which means “the jealous one”. The mosiac also leads us to beleive that this was probaly a shop for more wealthy consumers due to the attention to detail and cost of builing.
Created in metashape for the Virtual Roman Retail project with the permission of the Parco Archeological di Ostia Antica.
