These are props that make up a peristyle. A peristyle is an enclosed courtyard gardner. They were typical of ancient rome. I had a lot of fun with this project. The idea of modular props was new to me. I didn’t quite understand it at first, but when I did it blew my mind. I actually think this is the sort of thing I want a job doing. I like that you can make a small set of props that lock together and that’s magically enough to make an entire environment. The precision and possibility is very appealing to me. So obviously for this project I looked at a long of roman architecture and images of courtyard gardens. I went with a warm color palette in the stone and contrasting red and green pops of color for interest and decoration. I am most proud of the roof set of props. They are very versatile and look like the real deal. I’m quite proud of the roof prop itself. It was really difficult to make work but somehow I pulled through. I also quite like the arch. I was able to make it in Maya using the bend modifier.
