More model informationThis marble-clad masonry basin is located in the front room of the eastern most so-called Fish Shop (IV.5.1a) at Ostia. In the 3rd c. CE, the shops on the northern side of the so-called Macellum (IV.4) expanded into the portico. A new black-and-white marine mosaic was installed along with the basin, which would have been a focal point and, according to some scholars, may have contained live fish for sale.
