Description: The Rose Well House is one of the oldest structures at the Indiana University, Bloomington campus. It was completed in 1908 over a cistern supplying water to the campus. In addition to this practical function, the Rose Well House came to be known as a place for romance: marriage proposals and midnight rendezvous in the well house are campus traditions.
The stone portals are from the ‘Old College Building’ on IU’s original campus at Seminary Square.
Theodore F. Rose, an 1875 alumnus and IU trustee, helped fund its construction as a tribute to his graduating class.
