Scarpigarth 19th century farmstead, Shetland3D Model
Scarpigarth was a 19th century farmstead in the Upper Weisdale valley, in Shetland. The families who lived in the farms at Scarpigarth were evicted during the 1860’s when the land was turned over to commercial sheep farming. Scarpigarth is likely to have started out as single crofthouse with attached byre and barn, in a similar format to the nearby croft at South Scarpigarth. The range of buildings was then converted into two dwellings, situated side by side, with a small annexe in the space between the two dwellings that likely acted as shared byre or barn. The secondary dwelling was probably converted back into a byre in the later half of the 19th Century, possibly after one of the families who lived there was evicted.
