School House 7, Bedford, NH & Kendall Shoe 18473D Model
A photoscan of the Bedford New Hampshire School House number 7 located in the United States. In front of the school house is a large millstone “used by Stephen French, Sr. in the late 1700s to grind bark for tanning leather. When Stephen French, III gave up the family tanning trade in the mid-1800’s. The millstone was moved to Nathan Kendall’s blacksmith shop in the Center and was used for setting wheel tires on wagons. By 1903 it had outlived that use and was used to cover the well in front of the old location of the Kendall cobbler’s shop in the center.”
Next to it is the 1847 Oliver Kendall Shoe Shop and a stable for carriages. I couldn’t scan the stable as cars were parked in front of it. Behind the Shoe Shop and between the Stable were two graves. One unknown name Died Apr. 15, 1883, 7 yrs.11ms.2ds. The other marked as Angie M. died Nov. 1886. I couldn’t read the age.
The School house now serves as the Bedford Historical Society’s meeting place and the Shoe Shop as a museum.
