Sculpture fragment, National Museum of Maldives3D ModelNoAI
This carved coralstone fragment (MAHS-MDV-COL-001-O-0041 / hirigalun kan’dai nagaafaivaa moonu) depicts a human face with delicate features. It’s back t is rough and slightly concave, and it measures 14cm high, 15cm wide, and 10.5cm thick.
The sculpture was found in 2002 while digging on the grounds of Rihiveli Goathi on Kin’bidhoo (Thaa Atoll). That location is approximately 200 meters from the site of the stepped stupa called known as Kin’bidhoo Veyru. The object has been tentatively dated by the National Museum to the 8th-9th centuries CE.
