More model informationThis 3D model represents an impressive brass cannon commissioned by King Tewodros of Ethiopia during the 19th century. This cannon, known as the Sebastopol mortar, was designed to fire a massive 1,000-pound cannonball. Its construction took seven months and involved building two furnaces for casting. Transporting it required a special road and the efforts of up to 800 men over a 200-mile journey that took six months. Although it wasn’t used in the Battle of Magdala, it remains half-buried near Amba Mariam. A bronze replica is displayed at Tewodros Square in Addis Ababa, commemorating this historical artifact and its significance.
