Fiskbyrgi líkt og þau sem eru að finna á Selatöngum voru notuð til að þurrka fisk. Fiskbyrgin eru hlaðin úr hraungrýti sem er að finna í umhverfinu. Hleðslan er óþétt svo vel lofti í gegn því án góðrar loftunar gat fiskurinn skemmst sem var geymdur í byrgjunum. Þök byrgja af þessari tegund voru oft borghlaðin, þ.e. hlaðin upp í kúpul, og eru byrgin því yfirleitt löng og mjó því að öðrum kosti ber mannvirkið ekki þakið.

Sheds like the ones at Selatangar site were used to store and dry fish. The building material used was lava rock, collected in the surrounding area. The walls were constructed so that the wind could easily blow through them and give ventilation, as without this air flow the fish would rot inside the shed. The roofs were often built using a construction technique called borghleðsla. This method entailed that the walls lean in towards the top of the building ending in a domed roof.
