In 2021, the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency performed a two month exacavation on one of the shipwrecks in the protected area of Burgzand Noord. The remains of this shipwreck (which has the number 9) are from a wooden sailing vessel which was probably made around 1640. Although not fully excavated, the visible remains are roughly 30 x 25 m with a nearly complete bottom from the stem of the ship (25m, with the stern still not excavated) and a board which is preserved from the bilge up to the end of the 3th deck (two full decks and one half deck). The researchers are still examining the results, but this ships was probably a Dutch armed trading vessel that made trading runs in the Baltic as in the Mediterranean. The shipwreck lays at a depth of 9 tot 11 m (depending the tide). The strong currents and poor visibility in the Waddenzee makes the creation of a good 3D model a challenging activity. This model was made in collaboration with Thomas van Damme (@Ubi3D).
