More model informationA fish spear found on the shipwrecked 1564 galleon Santa Clara emerges from the calcareous encrustation that formed on it while underwater. Most of the spear’s original iron had decomposed to corrosion compounds. This left a void in the concretion in the form of the artifact. The decomposed iron was removed to create a mold, and a cast of the artifact was made from epoxy resin. This model shows the form of the cast fish spear materializing as the encrustation is chipped away. This artifact is similar to the trident carried by Poseidon or Neptune. It would have been used to catch fish swimming alongside the Santa Clara. To view a model of the fully encrusted form as it was recovered from the shipwreck, see https://skfb.ly/J78P
