More model informationTo the East of the Bath House is the main boundary ditch from Calleva, the Iron Age settlement; precursor of Silchester Roman town. The ditch is 4.2m metres deep. All of the stratigraphy contains Roman material culture. The dark lower horizons contained the dog skulls and other exciting finds, soon to be revealed in another model. In the section you can see large levelling dumps tipping from the west end, of rubble, opus signinum mortar and other building material. The waste water and rubbish from the bath house and preceeding structures would no doubt have ended up in this ditch. A fairly modern land drain with semi-circular tiles covering it cuts through the south east end.
