Creige Loisgte is the extreme north-eastern peninsula of the Isle of South Uist. immediately to the east of Rubha Ghaisinis. It has been important historically for its connections with the Kelping industry and has been extensively farmed.
Most of us in the UK are familiar with the standard O.S. Trig points which are found on many hills as reference points for general mapping.
Few people are quite so familiar with alternative Trig Points used by other map makers. This is an example by the Royal Navy, used as a datum point for surveying and production of Coastal Charts. It is on Sloc a Tairbh and bears a bronze plaque on its top surface which reads “Hydrographic Department, Admiralty, London SW1 - Triangulation Station HMS Shackleton, 1957 - GASH “B”
The ranging pole is one half metre, aligned north (red) - south.
