Smith Store at Heritage Village3D ModelNoAI
This grocery and meat market store opened in 1915 in what was called the mound park neighborhood, on the corner of 6th Ave. and 5th St. South in St. Petersburg, Florida. Shoppers came to the small store because it had it all the necessities, and was a one stop shop. From 1915 to 1955 this building had different owners and names, and it thrived for years. By the 1950s, small stores like this struggled to compete as shoppers flocked to downtown stores or air-conditioned shopping centers and later to mega malls. In its history it later served as a dwelling and a recreational spot before in being sold to the City of St. Petersburg in 1988 and then donated to Heritage Village where it was moved. The Pin-Mar Antique Car Club helped to restore the building to appear as a 1920’s era general store complete with a service station and garage.
