Soldier of the 1st ANZAC Division. WWI3D Model
In the early 1915 in Egypt, a group of Australian and New Zealand soldiers was preparing to redeploy to France. After a failed naval operation in the Dardanelles, the Entente Command decided to launch land operations. The 1st Australian Division and the mixed Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) were incorporated into the General Hamilton’s group, joined by the British 29th Division, the Royal Naval Division and the French Corps Expéditionnaire d’Orient. Opposing them, there was the Turkish 5th Army (84,000 men) commanded by the German military adviser, Otto von Sanders. The ANZAC soldiers were to land north of Gaba Tepe on the Aegean coast, from where they would control the entire peninsula. The battle for the Galipolli peninsula lasted until January 1916 and ended with the withdrawal of the entente troops.
