South of Wright's Landing, February 20233D Model
South of Wright’s Landing is a large archaeological site located at the GTM Research Reserve. The area has been occupied for thousands of years, containing shell middens from Indigenous Floridians and scattered artifacts from the colonial periods. The shoreline is erodingg due in large part to increased traffic on the Tolomato River/Intracoastal Waterway and climate-driven impacts like increased and intensified storm events. Archaeologists with FPAN are working to document and track erosion and site changes using photogrammetry.
This scan is part of a larger project, People of the Guana Peninsula, that aims to understand and address climate change impacts to this site. Stay tuned for more scans and information about how the site is changing. For more information, visit fpan.us/guana.
